Problem
As 3D printing workflows expanded beyond the desktop, users needed the ability to monitor and manage print jobs on the go. However, mobile experiences for 3D printer management were often limited, inconsistent with desktop tools, or difficult to use in real-world scenarios such as labs, classrooms, and workshops. AstroPrint needed a mobile experience that complemented the web platform, reinforced trust in remote printing, and supported user engagement outside traditional desktop workflows.
Solution
AstroPrint Mobile was developed as a companion application to the AstroPrint web platform, enabling users to monitor print jobs, receive real-time status updates, and stay connected to their printers from anywhere. The mobile experience focused on clarity, reliability, and continuity with the core AstroPrint ecosystem, ensuring that users could confidently track progress and respond quickly to issues without being tethered to a desktop interface.
The app also served as an important touchpoint for onboarding, education, and brand reinforcement, helping users understand the value of connected 3D printing through a streamlined, approachable mobile experience.
My Role
I supported the development and refinement of AstroPrint Mobile through user testing, design review, and experience validation across real-world use cases. I gathered and synthesized feedback from users to help identify usability issues, interaction improvements, and areas where the mobile experience could better align with user expectations and the broader AstroPrint platform.
In addition to product feedback, I designed marketing and promotional materials that supported the launch and adoption of the mobile app. This included visual assets and messaging used across the website, app store listings, and marketing campaigns, ensuring the mobile experience was clearly communicated and consistently positioned within the AstroPrint ecosystem.
